Explosion at Mexican Steel Plant Leaves at Least 12 Dead

A steel plant owned by Simec in Mexico’s central state of Tlaxcala experienced a deadly explosion early Wednesday, resulting in at least 12 fatalities, according to local authorities.

The incident involved a spill of molten steel at the Apizaco facility, leading to a temporary halt in operations and significant loss of life, the company reported in a statement.

Simec has initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the explosion.

The state’s civil protection agency suggested on social media that the explosion might have occurred due to the collapse of smelting equipment.

The state prosecutor’s office confirmed that those who died were employees at the facility. One person remains in critical condition in the hospital.
