Fires Contained at Libya’s Zawiya Refinery, National Oil Corporation Reports
Fires that erupted in multiple reservoirs at the Zawiya refinery in Libya have been successfully contained. Located 40 kilometers (25 miles) west of Tripoli, Zawiya hosts Libya’s largest operational refinery, which has a production capacity of 120,000 barrels per day. The facility is linked to the Sharara oilfield.
Efforts are underway to transfer the remaining materials from the damaged reservoirs to other storage units.
Earlier the same day, the NOC declared force majeure, citing significant damage to reservoirs caused by clashes between armed groups near the refinery.
