Seven Miners Killed in Kazakhstan Mine Collapse

Seven miners lost their lives in a collapse at the Zhomart mine in Kazakhstan’s Ulytau region on Monday night, local media reported. The accident trapped all seven workers underground, and by Tuesday morning, their bodies had been recovered.

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incident, instructing the government to determine the cause and prevent future disasters. A special commission has been established to oversee the inquiry.

Preliminary findings from Kazakhmys, the company operating the mine, suggest that a natural gas explosion was the likely cause of the collapse. Authorities are also assessing safety protocols at the site to prevent similar accidents.
