Blast at Food Dye Facility Claims Two Lives, Injures Eleven

An explosion at a food coloring factory in Louisville, Kentucky, on November 12 resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left several others injured. The incident occurred at a Givaudan Sense Colour facility, which specializes in producing colorants for food and beverages. In a public statement, Givaudan expressed deep sorrow, confirming the loss of two employees in the tragic event at its Louisville factory. The company also noted that 11 other workers sustained injuries and were transported to the hospital for treatment.

Beyond the casualties and injuries, the blast caused extensive damage to the facility. A portion of a pressure vessel was reportedly propelled beyond the factory’s perimeter, striking a nearby residential building. Givaudan acknowledged receiving reports of damage to homes and structures in the vicinity and stated that it was collaborating with emergency responders to assist those affected by the incident.

The company assured the public that a thorough investigation into the explosion is ongoing. It is working closely with emergency services and relevant agencies to determine the cause of the accident.

On November 18, the CSB began a preliminary inquiry immediately after the explosion, gathering information from local authorities, the ATF, and Givaudan. Now, the investigative team will conduct on-site interviews, document the scene, and collect critical evidence to help prevent similar tragedies in the future.
