Fire at Abadan Oil Refinery After Lightning Strike
A fire broke out at the Abadan oil refinery on Thursday the 20th of March morning when lightning struck a fuel oil tank during severe weather conditions.
Reza Naeimi, head of public relations at the refinery, reported that emergency response and crisis management teams acted swiftly, bringing the fire under control in a short time. He confirmed that there were no casualties and that the tank suffered only minor damage. Despite the incident, the refinery continues to operate at full capacity.
As Iran’s oldest and largest refinery, Abadan has played a crucial role in the country’s oil industry. Though it was damaged during the Iraq-Iran war under Saddam Hussein’s regime, extensive reconstruction and expansion efforts by its workforce have restored and enhanced its operations.
