Fire at Synergene Active Ingredients Claims Lives of 5 Workers
A tragic flash fire at a pharmaceutical facility in Anakapalli district has resulted in the loss of three lives, with two more workers succumbing to burn injuries after the incident on August 23. The fire broke out at Synergene Active Ingredients Pvt Ltd, located within Jawaharlal Nehru Pharma City in Parawada, following the improper mixing of chemical substances. The mixing of a chemical powder and liquid without adherence to standard operating procedures led to an explosion.
The victims have been identified as Lal Singh Poorthy, 22, who passed away on Sunday night, and K Suryanarayana, 35, who died on Monday morning. These deaths follow the passing of Roy Angira, 21, who had succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.
The sole survivor, Oybon Khora, 23, remains in a critical condition. The initial accident injured a chemist along with three workers from Jharkhand, bringing attention to the hazardous working conditions at the site.
The fire erupted at approximately 12:30 am on August 23 due to the faulty mixing of chemicals, which generated fumes and static electricity, culminating in the explosion.
Syngene Active Ingredients, with its headquarters in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, operates two units along with Jaahnavee Life Sciences in JN Pharma City, employing approximately 600 workers.
