Fire at Idemitsu Refinery Near Tokyo Injures One
A fire broke out at a refinery owned by Idemitsu Kosan Co., a leading Japanese oil company, near Tokyo on Tuesday, resulting in injuries to a male employee, according to police and company officials.
Firefighters were alerted around 2:30 p.m. to a fire caused by an oil leak at the Ichihara complex in Chiba Prefecture. The blaze originated in a facility that produces lubricating oils, as reported by the complex and other sources.
The injured employee, a man in his 20s, sustained burns and was transported to a hospital. The fire was successfully brought under control by approximately 5:20 p.m., authorities confirmed.
This refinery is Idemitsu’s largest, generating around 20 percent of the company’s petroleum products and refining about 10 million kiloliters of crude oil annually, as stated on the company’s website.
