Fire Contained at Crude Unit in German Refinery
A fire that erupted at Bayernoil Raffineriegesellschaft MBH’s dual-site refinery, which processes 10.3 million tonnes annually, has been successfully put out. The refinery is located across Vohburg, Ingolstadt, and Neustadt in Bavaria, Germany.
Bayernoil is co-owned by Varo Energy GMBH, which holds a 51.43% stake, along with Rosneft Deutschland GMBH (28.57%) and Enilive Deutschland GMBH, a subsidiary of Eni SPA (20%). The refinery supplies oil products to Bavaria and parts of northern Austria.
The blaze started at around noon on October 16 in the crude distillation unit at the company’s 300-hectare site in Neustadt an der Donau. Bayernoil reported that their internal fire brigade managed to extinguish the fire.
Although a contractor was injured during the incident and transported to a hospital in Ingolstadt for treatment, Bayernoil assured the public that there was no threat to nearby residents.
The company has informed all necessary authorities but has not yet provided any information about the cause of the fire or the current operational status of the Neustadt facility.
