Fuel Tanker Explosion in Haiti Claims 24 Lives

Haitian authorities report that 24 people have lost their lives following a fuel tanker explosion.

Numerous others have sustained severe injuries, with some suffering burns over 80% of their bodies, according to Prime Minister Garry Conille.

The explosion occurred on Saturday near Miragoane, approximately 100 kilometers (60 miles) west of Port-au-Prince, the nation’s capital.

Local media stated that the tanker was involved in a collision with another vehicle, causing fuel to spill onto the road. The blast took place as bystanders rushed to gather the leaking fuel.

Prime Minister Conille, speaking at Port-au-Prince airport where some of the wounded were being airlifted, described the aftermath as a “horrific scene.” He pledged to make every effort to provide the necessary medical treatment for the victims.
