Gwent Police swiftly closed several roads in the area to ensure public safety during the emergency response. Nash Road and routes around Glan Llyn Roundabout were among those temporarily shut down.
According to Group Manager Mike Evans, the fire was reported at 7.48pm, prompting the deployment of three fire appliances, a water bowser, an aerial ladder platform, and specialized officers to the scene. The initial teams were met with a significant blaze that quickly spread, necessitating the involvement of additional firefighting resources.
By midnight, the combined efforts of six fire appliances, three water bowsers, and two aerial ladders successfully contained the fire, preventing further escalation. The collaborative response included various agencies such as the Welsh Ambulance Service, Gwent Police, local businesses, and Wales and West Utilities.
While the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, in conjunction with Gwent Police, will initiate a joint investigation.
