CFO Roy Wilsher Presents New Buncefield Report from Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue Services to Angela Smith MP responsible for Fire with the DCLG

A new report into the Buncefield oil storage depot explosion could help shape emergency responses to major incidents, its authors claim. The Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service report into the 2005 blast has 30 recommendations which will be shared with emergency services worldwide. They include introducing earpieces for radios, to enable communication while emergency workers are wearing a helmet. There were no fatalities in December's blaze but 43 people were hurt. Emergency calls  The fire service said the incident was the largest fire in peacetime Europe. Hertfordshire's chief fire officer Roy Wilsher presented the report on Wednesday. He said it followed months of investigation, debriefs and interviews with those involved in the response to Buncefield. Control rooms across in the area handled more than 220 emergency calls to the incident. Other recommendations include establishing a national system to maintain an accurate record of all fire responders at the scene to enable a rapid head count. It also called for consideration to be given to a national system of incident command support teams that could be deployed during a catastrophic or protracted incident.
