Two Fatalities Reported Following Chemical Plant Blast in Ningxia, China
According to a report from state media outlet Xinhua, a tragic explosion at a chemical plant in the Ningxia region of northwest China has resulted in the loss of two lives and left four others injured.
The incident took place on Thursday at the premises of Ningxia Baofeng Energy, a company listed on the Shanghai stock exchange specializing in the production of chemicals derived from coal.
The injured individuals have been transported to the hospital for medical attention, while authorities are currently investigating the cause of the explosion.
This is not the first safety incident to have occurred at the facility. On January 31, 2024, there was a deflagration incident at the same plant, which resulted in minor injuries to two inspectors in close proximity to the site. Fortunately, emergency responders were able to contain the fire within 14 minutes, preventing any further escalation of the situation.
Ningxia Baofeng Energy is involved in various operations including coal mining, maintenance of mining equipment, and the production of chemical products. Established in November 2005, the company is headquartered in Yinchuan, China.
